When you take the children with you in the car, safety is of course paramount. It is important to protect the children well during a car ride and to let them sit comfortably. In addition, it is mandatory to transport your child up to a height of 1.35 meters in a car seat. The normal seat belt is not yet suitable for children and cannot offer them sufficient safety. If your child is 1.25 meters tall, you can choose to replace the car seat with a booster seat. In this way the child can sit a little higher and the belt will fit well, which ensures the right safety, comfortable sitting and, moreover, they can now better watch you.
Car seat rules
When purchasing a car seat, there are a number of rules to keep in mind. For example, the car seat must be ECE R44-04 approved and you must put the car seat backwards until approximately the age of 15 months. Small children under 15 months of age may be launched forward in a head-on collision when traveling forward. This can lead to serious injury while the head and neck are still so fragile. When the car seat is placed backwards, the impact can be absorbed by the back of the seat. It is therefore better to wait a little longer before transporting your child forward. Would you still like to be able to keep an eye on your child while driving? There are special baby mirrors for this that can be mounted on the headrest. This way you can keep an eye on the baby through the mirrors without losing sight of the traffic.
Would you rather have the child with you in the front of the car? This is only allowed if no airbags are present, or if the airbags are deactivated. It is recommended that children up to the age of 12 not sit near an airbag to avoid injury in the event of a collision. In general, children must be transported in a high chair or booster seat until they are 1.35 meters tall.
Booster seat car
From an average age of 5 years, your child may be transported in a booster seat. For this, the child must be 22 kilos and 1.25 meters tall. This applies to both booster seats with and without backrest. The booster seat is mandatory up to a length of 1.35 metres. The booster seat is easier to use than the car seat and ensures that the belt stays in place and offers the right safety for the child.
